Solitary: HTBL
Publication
This project involved designing a series of sample pages for Solitary: How to Beat Loneliness by author and journalist Ros Thomas. The brief was to establish the visual direction and layout style for the publication, including the front cover, title pages, interview spreads, author biography, infographics, and editorial content.
My approach focused on creating a visually engaging and cohesive reading experience that balanced readability with a coffee-table book aesthetic. Through structured layouts, calm typography, and integrated data visualisation, I developed a design system that supports the book’s themes of loneliness and connection. A simple circular motif was used throughout the publication to represent an individual, providing a consistent visual element that reinforced the narrative themes of lonliness, solitary and hope across the book.
